Ponnar Shankar's costly battle

Chief Minister Dr. M. Karunanidhi’s novel 'Ponnar Sankar' is being made into a film with the same title. Prashanth will enact the roles of Ponner and Sankar; his father Thyagarajan is the producer. They have decided to make it so grand that it will be remembered as the best historical film ever made. Their aim is to make this film earn the same level of international recognition which films like Troy have garnered. After almost 40 years, Ponnar Shankar will be among the first historic films to be made in Tamil. Interestingly, the film has two major battle sequences and the crew has used around 30,000 people and 3,000 horses in the sequence.
Kalaignar’s historical novel 'Ponner Sankar' is about two brave brothers (Ponner and Sankar) of Kong Ponnaru Nadu (present districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Karur, and parts of Tiruchi and Madurai). The novel has a perfect storyline, fit to be made into a grand film. It narrates the bravery of these brothers and their camaraderie. The film also stars Sneha, Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Khushbu, Prakashraj, Napoleon, Rajkiran and Vijayakumar in prominent roles.
